Hey Burien, we the people have new entertainment every Tuesday night at Mick Kelly’s Irish Pub.  It only started a couple of weeks ago but is building momentum.  Hosted by musician Mingus O’Bannon who I really enjoyed.  After doing a little googling, I saw that he has an album out.  Click on the picture below to hear samples of songs.

Also performing was Burien’s infamous Scotty Douglas from Scotland…whoooaman, he’s never short of a mouthful of cheer.  I saw him perform before at a St. Francis Harvest Festival, I love our Catholic school, they had a wine bar and Scotty!  A couple of others I saw were; Bernie with comedy and music and Danny Shearer.

Open Mic is from 9-midnight with happy hour ending at 11pm with $2.50 wells and microbrews, $3.50 imports, all the happy hour menu stuff like Potato skins, fish & Chips, Mini corned beef sandwiches, etc., all being served by the conveniently cute bartender, Dermot.

I’m really loving all the live music that is coming to the Burien area!  I had to go watch Sitka Tex again at Sidestreet Kitchen.  He’s a one man show but full of a variety of sounds and songs.  Hmmm, let’s see, my favorite was “The Devil went down to Georgia”.  Right before my very eyes people started dancing.  I wasn’t tempted to start dancing at first but started thinking about it after a few of their special pomegranate lemonade martinis.  You have to go just to see Sitka’s mustache that is twisted to a fine point on each side, his grin and smiling eyes.

I haven’t been in there to eat lately but noticed they had several new food items on the menu.  I tried for the very first time, one of their flatbread appetizers.  It had a white bean spread, bacon and fresh arugula, oh my goodness, it was so good.  My favorite which I have often, is the grilled and blackened ahi tuna.

I still haven’t tried their Prime Rib on Friday’s but promise to soon.  Another great thing about Sidestreet, it’s open late.   Midnight during the week and 2am on Friday and Saturdays with happy hour specials.

My favorite Chef in Burien…owner, Dan Davis

I’ve been making the rounds for Burien wine tasting and I have to say may favorite place for this would be Vino Bello.  Every Saturday from Noon-9:00pm, $10.  Live Music starts at 5pm.  Last Saturday they had GOOSE RIDGE ESTATE VINEYARDS AND WINERY which is a family-owned and operated winery dedicated to limited production, handcrafted wines from select, estate-grown grapes. The Monson family’s vineyard is planted on a south-facing slope in Washington’s Columbia Valley adjacent to Red mountain that consistently yields rich, ripe grapes.  I can say that I didn’t meet one wine that night that I didn’t like.

Plus the added bonus was the Po’ Boys (Vino Bello’s house band) was there.  The Fabulous Po’ Boys play a mix of music, including Beatles, Byrds, Eagles, Jimmy Buffett, Los Lonely Boys, Fountains of Wayne, Crowded House, Van Morrison, Roy Orbison, Oasis, Everly Brothers, Chris Isaak, Paul Simon, Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, Joni Mitchell and other bluesy/rootsy/pop rock gems. Their latest CD, “Turn The Channel,” has bee released and all the original music from all their CDs is available on iTunes.
