Emerald City Smoothie says Thank You to a couple that went the extra mile!

Local Burien Business owner has a story of gratitude to share. Kind people make the world a better place!
Janel’s story…”We went boating on July 3rd which was a holiday for most people. We were parked at Stan Sayers boat launch (hydro pits). At the end of the day we got dropped off at the boat launch. It was a nice day so the boat launch was extremely chaotic, a truck had driven into the lake so there were police everywhere, it was around 7pm so people were trying to get their boats off the lake, and I had a cute little 12 year old with me waiting for her parents. As we were standing by my car waiting I decided to put my jewelry back on, and at the same time her parents pulled up and I didn’t want her walking across the crowded parking lot alone. It was at this time I must have dropped my ring. I sent her with her parents and we jumped in our car to leave and got about 20 spots away and I realized my ring wasn’t on and was missing. We went back to the spot not even 5 minutes had passed and there was a car already in our spot. I looked everywhere and could not find my ring. (I now think a car was parked on it). We went home, and I was completely sick. The ring is a little over a carrot with a setting that has 10 more diamonds in it. The next morning was the 4th of July. I called the Seattle Parks Department who connected me to the Stan Sayers Park personnel. I didn’t hear back from them. Every day that week I woke up sick to my stomach because of the loss of that ring. I said a few prayers and tried not to think about it, but it was in the back of my mind constantly.
Meanwhile apparently, this couple lives in the area and were out walking. They found the ring. They posted fliers because the wife said she just knew that someone would be sick about losing the ring. They put out fliers at the park and also contacted the Seattle Parks Department. After a much needed weekend away I got a phone call Monday morning from the Parks department asking me about my lost ring, and that someone had found a ring and they wanted to connect us. I called the number which was the husband’s business number (Matt Nye Edward Jones Investments) and he thoroughly quizzed me to verify it was indeed my lost ring. I was stunned to say the least that someone would go to so much trouble to make sure my ring got returned. I even asked the guy “who returns such a valued find?” He was really happy to be able to get me back my ring, but not nearly at happy as me. I gave them a small reward and of course a gift card to Emerald City Smoothie.
As a small business owner dealing with a rough economy and exposed to the daily misery of our national debt, it was refreshing to know there are positive people out there just wanting to help people. I donate a lot of time and money to our local communities and had started to feel like why do I do this stuff. This experience has renewed my faith in people and why it is important to become part of the selfless giving community. This couple went out of their way to get my ring back to me for no other reason than to do a good thing for someone they didn’t even know, in hopes that the same thing would happen to them. Every day I make decisions and hope that I am helping people or encouraging people along the way to think about what we can do to make this world a better place. Individual people can do this by simple random acts of kindness.
The ring…it looks great, it had been driven over several times, so one side is pretty scared up, but the diamond looked great. Nothing the Jeweler can’t fix.”
